Was His Name "Jesus"? The Letter J Did Not Exist Until About 500 Years Ago

You have prayed to the name "Jesus" your whole life. You have sung it, cried it, leaned on it. Nobody ever told you a hard, simple fact: that name could not have been His, because the letter it starts with, the "J," did not even exist when He walked the earth. Let me show you the real name, and what was done to it.

The name, in the oldest writing we have

Before English, before the Square Script, the name was written in the oldest letters we know of, the Paleo Script. Here it is in all three forms:

Read the Paleo and the square from right to left. Look at the front of the name. It begins with the Yod, the "Y," the same Yod that begins Yahuah. That is not an accident. The name of the Father is carried right inside the name of the Son. Yahusha means "Yahuah is salvation," Yahuah saves. His name is a sentence about the Father.

Now the number that ends the argument

Here is a fact you can check in any history of the alphabet.

The letter "J" is only about 500 years old. It did not exist in the ancient Lashon Qanaʿan language. It did not exist in Greek. It did not exist in Latin for most of its history. The sound and letter we call "J" came into common use only a few hundred years ago. So a name beginning with "J," like "Jesus," could not have been spoken over Him when He lived. It is not old. It is new.

His name does not begin with a "J," and it never began with an "I" either. It begins with the Yod. The "Y."

The proof hiding in your own Bible

You do not even have to leave the English text to catch this. The very same name is in your Bible twice, spelled two different ways.

The man who followed Mushah and led the people into the land had this name: Yahusha (the fuller form is often written Yahushua). Your English Bible calls him Joshua. That same name is written for him about 200 times in the earlier Scrolls.

When that identical name reached the renewed-covenant writings, it went into Greek as Iesous, then Latin, then finally English "Jesus."

So look at what happened. The same name became "Joshua" in the front of the book and "Jesus" in the back of the book. One name. Two different English spellings. That alone proves "Jesus" is a translation choice, not the name He was given. And in the oldest Scrolls, the name that starts with "J," "Jesus," appears zero times. Never once.

What that switch quietly did

When the name became "Jesus," the Yod at the front was lost, and with it, the Name of the Father hidden inside the Son's name. People say "Jesus" with all their heart and never know they are meant to be hearing Yahuah in it, "Yahuah saves." The name stopped being a sentence about the Father and became a foreign word with no meaning the speaker can see. The connection between the Son and the Name of the Father was quietly cut.

How this connects to the Turah

This is the part the churches skip, so hear it plainly.

His name carries salvation, the very salvation the Turah and the prophets point to. And He did not come to cancel the Turah. He upheld it. Read His own words in Matithyahu (Matthew) 5:17-18: "Do not think that I came to destroy the Turah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fill it full. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one Yod, not one stroke, shall pass from the Turah until all is done."

Sit in that. He said not one Yod would pass from the Turah, the smallest letter, the same Yod they later cut out of His own name and His people's name. The one who guarded every Yod of the Turah had a Yod taken from Him by men.

And look how He described Himself, in Yukhanan (John) 14:6: "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Those are not new words. That is exactly what the Scrolls already say about the Turah. The Turah is the way to walk (all through Tahilim 119). The Turah is truth: Tahilim (Psalms) 119:142 says, "Your Turah is truth." The Turah is life: Dabarim (Deuteronomy) 30 and 32:47 call it "your life." He described Himself with the Turah's own three words, because He and the Turah say the same thing. He taught from it, lived it, and would not let one Yod of it fall.

So ask the simple question: why would He teach from the Turah, uphold the Turah, and take the Turah's own titles for Himself, if the Turah was finished and did not matter? He would not. It was not finished. That is why the name matters, and why the Turah matters, they carry the same Yahuah.

Let us be honest about what is proven

Proven: the name is written beginning with the Yod, the "Y." The letter "J" is only about 500 years old and did not exist in the ancient tongues. The same name is rendered "Joshua" in the earlier Scrolls (about 200 times) and "Jesus" in the renewed writings, one name, two English spellings. Yahusha means "Yahuah is salvation." He upheld the Turah in His own words (Matithyahu 5:17-18) and took the Turah's descriptions, the way, the truth, the life (Yukhanan 14:6; Tahilim 119:142; Dabarim 30).

Not overclaimed: we are not saying a person who called on "Jesus" in sincerity was mocking Him. We are saying the true name is Yahusha, it carries the Name of the Father, and "Jesus" is a late spelling that hides both.

Now sit with it

The letter that starts "Jesus" is younger than the printing press. His real name begins with the Yod, carries Yahuah inside it, and means Yahuah saves. The same name your Bible calls "Joshua" it also calls "Jesus," proof it was always a choice.

Go check it yourself. Then ask the question they never put to you:

If they could take the Father's Name out of the Son's name, and get the whole world to call Him something that could not even be spelled until 500 years ago, how much do you really know about the One you are praying to?
