Is the "Church" in the Oldest Text? The Word Is Qahal, the Assembly

You were taught that Yahuah started a thing called the "church," a building on a corner, a religion with a steeple, something separate from the people He first called. But that word is a latecomer. Go to the oldest text and there is no "church." There is Qahal. Qahal is the assembly, the gathered people, the whole congregation of Yahuah standing together to hear Him.

What the word actually means

Qahal comes from a root that means to call together, to summon, to gather. The Qahal is what you get when the call goes out and the people come: the assembly. It is not a building. It is not a program. It is people, the gathered body of Yahuah's own, called out of their tents and their fields to stand in one place and hear their Alahym. When the text speaks of "the day of the Qahal," it means the day the whole nation stood together at the mountain.

Dabarim (Deuteronomy) 4:10 says: "The day that you stood before Yahuah your Alahym in Khoreb, when Yahuah said to me, Gather the people to Me, and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live upon the earth."

That gathering is the Qahal. The whole people, summoned to one place, to hear Yahuah with their own ears. No building. Just the called-out people standing before Him.

Tahilim (Psalms) 22:22 says: "I will declare Your name to my brothers: in the midst of the Qahal will I praise You."

The Qahal is the company of brothers, the gathered people, the place where the Name is declared out loud. That is the word doing its plain work: the assembly of Yahuah's own.

What "church" did to it

When Qahal became "church," the meaning was pulled out of the people and pushed into an institution. "Church" makes you picture a building, a denomination, a paid clergy, a place you drive to on a certain morning. And once the word meant a building and a religion, it was easy to teach that this new thing had replaced the old people, that Yashar'al was set aside and "the church" put in its place. But Qahal never meant a building, and it never meant a different people. It meant the called-out assembly of Yahuah, the very congregation He gathered at the mountain. The word did not create a new religion. It named His people standing together to hear Him.

How this connects to the Turah

Here is the thread. The Qahal was gathered for one reason: to hear the Turah, the instruction of Yahuah, from His own voice. Dabarim 4:10 says the people were assembled so Yahuah could make them "hear My words." The great day of the Qahal is the day the Turah was given. So you cannot separate the assembly from the instruction. The Qahal exists to receive the Turah and to live by it. When "church" replaced Qahal and then taught that the Turah was done away, it cut the assembly off from the very thing it was gathered to hear. Restore the word, and you see it plainly: the people of Yahuah are called together to stand under His instruction, not to escape it. That is what a Qahal is.

Let us be honest about what is proven

Proven: Qahal comes from a root meaning to call together and to gather, and it names the assembly, the gathered congregation of Yahuah's people. It is used many times, including of the great gathering at the mountain (Dabarim 4:10) and of the company where the Name is praised (Tahilim 22:22). It never means a building.

Not overclaimed: gathering itself is good, and Yahuah's people are meant to assemble. The loss is not the act of meeting; the loss is that "church" turned a called-out people into an institution and a structure, and helped teach that a new religion had replaced His congregation.
