What Does the Name Yahuah Mean?

That distinction matters. A name identifies someone. A title describes a position, function, or quality. Yahuah is not simply another title meaning ruler or mighty one. It is the restored personal Name used here for the One who creates, speaks, establishes covenant, delivers, commands, judges, shows mercy, and makes Himself known throughout the Scrolls.

The account in Shamuth connects the Name with Yahuah's self-disclosure and His continuing remembrance among the generations. Language connected with being and existence appears in that setting. Because of that, people sometimes try to compress the Name into a short definition such as "He is" or "He exists."

Those ideas can help explain part of the surrounding wordplay, but they should not be treated as though one English sentence exhausts everything the Name carries. The Scrolls themselves fill out the identity of Yahuah through what He says and does.

There is also evidence in personal names. The element Yahu appears within numerous names preserved in the consonantal tradition. That matters because it shows that the Name was not merely an abstract group of four silent letters. A recognizable Name element was carried within the names of people.

At the same time, evidence honesty requires an important distinction. Written consonants are not an ancient audio recording. The four letters are textual evidence. The complete ancient vocalization is a reconstruction question. This project therefore says the Name is restored in this work as Yahuah rather than claiming that every vowel has been preserved for us as directly as the consonants.

So what does Yahuah mean?

The strongest answer begins with identity. Yahuah is the personal covenant Name attached to Y-H-W-H. It identifies the One who revealed Himself, delivered Yashar'al, gave His Turah, established His covenant, and repeatedly commanded that His Name be remembered, declared, called upon, and praised.

The meaning of the Name is therefore not separated from the One who carries it. To learn Yahuah's Name is ultimately to learn who Yahuah is through His own words, works, commands, judgments, mercy, and faithfulness.
