Primary: 1 Maccabees 1:60–61 · Related: Josephus, Antiquities 12.5
What the ancient record says
1 Maccabees says after women were put to death for having their children circumcised, the infants were hung from their mothers' necks. Josephus describes women and circumcised sons executed with the sons hung around their mothers' necks; details vary but the underlying tradition of lethal punishment tied to circumcision is multiply attested.
The card must say "the ancient source reports…" rather than pretend we possess a photograph or contemporary execution register, the difference between forceful history and careless history.
