Beyond displaying spoils, Josephus describes enormous moving pageants recreating scenes from the war: a prosperous land being devastated, people killed, people fleeing, captives taken, walls battered, fortifications captured, fire sent upon sacred structures and buildings. The suffering of the conquered was turned into a visual spectacle for Romans who never witnessed the war; the craftsmanship made scenes appear almost as though spectators were witnessing the events.
