What the ancient record says

The separation did not stop with Shabbath. Canon 37 prohibits receiving festival gifts from Yahudim or from groups it calls heretics, and prohibits joining their celebrations.

Institutional separation was built not only around doctrine but social behavior: who you could celebrate with, whose festival gifts you could receive, which communal occasions you could share, boundary-making rules. Proves the council considered the behavior important enough to prohibit (strongly suggests such interactions occurred), though a prohibition alone does not tell us how many participated or how often.

Shared festivals create contact and preserve familiarity with another community's calendar; the rule sharpens the boundary, the demonstrable effect is greater institutional separation; whether every member intended every later consequence is unknown.
