The opening verses look back on a rescue already received, the one who waited patiently was heard, lifted out of a pit and miry clay, set on a rock with steady steps, and given a new song of praise. Then the later verses turn forward into fresh trouble, pleading for Yahuah to hurry and deliver, to help against those who seek to destroy, and closing with the confession that the poor and needy one is remembered by Yahuah. The song follows exactly that shape, moving from present distress to a direct cry and on toward praise.
Tahilliym (Psalms) 18:1-6 supplies the same movement in miniature. It begins with a rush of names for Yahuah as rock, fortress, deliverer, and shield, then describes being surrounded by the cords of death and the floods of trouble, and in that distress calling out. The passage states plainly that the cry reached His ears, which is the hinge the whole song turns on, distress produces a call, and the call is heard.
Tahilliym (Psalms) 34:4-7, 17-19 widens the promise beyond one person. It records seeking Yahuah and being answered and delivered from all fears, and it declares that the messenger of Yahuah camps around those who fear Him. The later verses insist that the righteous cry and Yahuah hears and delivers them from all their troubles, that He is near to the broken-hearted, and that though the afflicted have many troubles they are delivered out of them all. Tahilliym (Psalms) 70:1-5 then strips the prayer down to its most urgent form, a repeated plea to make haste to help and deliver, spoken by one who is poor and needy and cannot wait.
Set together, the four passages form the pattern the song is built on. Trouble presses in, the person calls directly on Yahuah, Yahuah hears, deliverance comes, and the rescue becomes the reason for renewed praise. It is a prayer for the hardest seasons that already carries the memory of past rescue inside it.
