As the broken wall of Yahrushalam begins to rise, the surrounding officials react first with mockery, sneering that the stones are burned and the work is hopeless, and then with a plot to attack the city and stop the labor by force. The builders answer on two fronts, they pray, and they set a guard day and night. The chapter ends with the arrangement in which each worker carries a tool in one hand and a weapon in the other, and a trumpet stands ready to gather everyone to any point where the attack lands. The song takes its whole shape from that scene of building while staying armed and alert.
