The blood is called a sign. When Yahuah passes through Mitsrayim in judgment and sees the blood, He passes over that house, and the household inside is spared. The song rests on this single scene, blood placed as a mark, and deliverance that follows the mark.
WaYiqra (Leviticus) 17:10-14 supplies the reason the blood carries such weight. It states that the life of the flesh is in the blood, and that Yahuah gave it for making covering.
